Statement | Palestine and Israel

Published on April 25, 2024

April 24, 2024 - Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. joins in solidarity with those impacted by the acts of war. We are firmly against all wars of plunder due to violent settler colonialism.

As we bear witness to the ongoing violence and acts of war that have killed and displaced the Palestinian civilians in Gaza, we see the destruction of their homes, places of worship, and everything they love. This war has created an inhumane crisis for millions of citizens of Gaza and a health and environmental catastrophe due to the cutting of food, water, fuel, electricity, and medical aid as a collective punishment.

We cannot stay silent. We want to acknowledge the suffering and collective trauma being experienced by those affected by this war under the genocide taking place. As a multicultural organization, we recognize the impact of the current events and the ramifications for all members of these communities.

The National Board of Directors is currently monitoring outbreaks of violence and the arrests of many college students, faculty, and staff around the country as they exercise their First Amendment right to protest and demand a ceasefire on this war. We provide this statement as an awareness of our collective solidarity and acknowledgment of those who are personally affected by the violence and turmoil in the Middle East.

Theta Nu Xi seeks to engage in genuine advocacy, which requires more than words or gestures – it demands a deep and sustained commitment to understanding the complexities of the issues at hand, listening to and amplifying the voices of affected communities, and taking meaningful action to address systemic injustices. As advocates, we encourage our members and surrounding communities to move beyond performative actions and engage in authentic and meaningful ways to support the causes we care about. This means educating ourselves, challenging our own biases and privileges, and actively working to dismantle systems of oppression and inequality in our communities and institutions.

Theta Nu Xi invites you to reflect on our advocacy efforts and consider how we can deepen our engagement and make a real difference in the lives of others. Together, let us build a movement rooted in authenticity, empathy, and genuine solidarity as we advocate, educate, and protect each other by uplifting Palestinian voices.
